F4J Canada en Action

14 février, 2005  Oshawa - ON - Heartbreak Hotel.

A tremendously dedicated crew of 20 men, women, and children marched with me to the Superior Court of Justice, Heartbreak Hotel, in Oshawa. We carried specially designed purple flags with red broken hearts, and some generously donated Fathers 4 Justice Canada signs. Our bristol board hearts however were no match for the rain.

Kevin Campbell, flag in hand, stands outside the Superior Court of Justice in protest, advocating "truth, justice and equality" in family law in Canada. He is currently in the process of renewing his custody battle for his 11 year old daughter, for whome he only has visitation rights. His daughters mother has full custody, but hasn't been with her for the past 10 years. According to one of the supporters at the rally, "Children are being used as a commodity in the child welfare system, where they're being seperated from loving family members, strictly for financial profit by legal representatives. The marching itself was no small task as we were walking in freezing rain and had it not been for the strong arms of some of our supporters, I likely would have blown away!

With chivalry like that, I see some superheros in the making! LOL

We stayed out in the rain and cold until 10:00am.

A local reporter followed us every step of the way and stayed until the end. A very keen young man with great ears as he is the first reporter ever to actually remember and repeat back to me "non-violent direct action" and he is interested in covering more of what we do.

A special balloon bouquet was delivered to the staff at the courthouse with a message that broken hearted kids and dads need each other and equal parenting.

While my one dedicated crew stood in the rain and cold, there were a couple other volunteers busily delivering balloon bouquets to the offices of MP's and our local police stations. All were very well received, and one of the MP's staff members expressed a keen interest in joining F4J, while another crew had already heard about the march and said they heard there were 30 people.

Paul Aube (center), was joined in support by his two children Mitchell (L) and Afton (R) at a rally organized by Fathers-4-Justice at the Superior Court of Justice advocating "truth, justice and equality" in family law in Canada. Paul is a single father, who went "through 16 months of hell" in the justice system to get sole custody of his children. He was falsely accused of abuse towards his wife, and it was only after his daughter stood up for him in court, that charges were dropped and custody granted. PHOTO BY: MIKE POCHWAT
